Classes are held for all levels, from Beginners to Advanced. Before beginning a course of study all students complete an assessment test and are interviewed to enable placement at the appropriate level. The courses use a communicative approach in which formal aspects of the language (grammar and vocabulary) are presented within contexts and functions of everyday language use.
The objective is to make it easy for the student to become fluent and accurate in using the language as well as to become familiar with the sociocultural context in which it is spoken. Class activities centre on the development of the four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking, with an emphasis on the latter. Task-oriented group work facilitates the development of communicative ability by means of oral activities in which the students engage in meaningful interaction. The cultural component of the courses is presented in the form of activities which show significant aspects of the Spanish-speaking culture and societies, focusing primarily on Spain, and further the student’s intercultural awareness.
The average number of students per class is from 6 to 10 and each class lasts for 55 minutes. Due to the fact that we have small student groups, the teacher is able to deal with the particular needs of each student on a more personal basis.
